International Women's Day 2018
International women’s day is a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievement in all forms, notably, social, economical, political and cultural dimensions.
One of the key objectives of the celebration is the need to sensitize women on their right particularly in areas of economic empowerment which is very critical for achieving gender equality. The day reminds us of the contributions and achievements of the women in the society. It is celebrated to show the respect, care and place owned by women.
The women in the West African Monetary Institute, Accra joined women all over the world to celebrate the day by organising a discourse on How a woman can effect change by creating awareness on “Sexual Harassment”
Sexual harassment may be defined as unwanted sexual advances, request for sexual favour, and other verbal or physical conduct of sexual nature.
Sexual harassment can be in form of the following;
- Unwanted touching, smooching, pinching
- Unwelcome sexual looks
- Unwelcome letters, telephone calls
- Sexual teasing, jokes or remarks
- Sexual suggestive signal.
- Any other undesirable act towards the body
Sexual Harassment is a punishable offence under the law which should be reported to the appropriate authority if any woman finds herself in any of these situation.
